9. Working practices

The rights of employees change over time. And these directly affect the operations of companies and organisations.

Worker rights are often supported by changes to the law such as a higher retirement age which the company or organisation has to deal with. But sometimes it is because of social and technical changes, such as the increased use of teleworking.

Example: Teleworking

With the rise of the internet and broadband connections it is much easier for some workers to work from home, either part-time or full time.

There is no obligation for a company to support teleworking. But if they do, then secure access to their network systems from outside need to be considered so the employee can work as if they were in the office.

In addition to this, there should be a seamless connection between external customers and the teleworker so a customer is not even aware that they are dealing with someone working from home. This means a robust telephone and email system that routes the customer to the teleworker from the company systems.
