Indent

A word processing term.

Meaning the first line is not in line with the rest of the paragraph. It is done to make the page look more interesting.

A 'hanging indent' is where the first line is to the left of the rest. Like so:

This is a hanging indent
     and this is the 
     rest of the paragraph

A normal indent is where the first line is to the right of the rest. Like so:

 And this is a normal indent
where the rest of the paragraph is
like this.

Most word processing packages, such as Word, have indent control features.
