This is another name for a picture.

There are many types of image file formats, each with their advantages and disadvantages. But they can all be broken down into either bitmap images or vector images.

Bitmap file: Excellent for showing lots of fine detail such as a photograph may contain but they can be very large files, especially uncompressed files.

Example of bitmap image files: JPG, JPEG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, PNG

Vector file: Excellent for images that need to be scaled to different sizes without losing quality e.g. Logos, Illustrations. Excellent for small file sizes, but not so good for fine detail such as may be found in photographs.

Example of vector files. AI (Adobe Illustrator), .cdr (Corel Draw), EPS (Encapsulated Post Script), SVG, DWG
